Open Source = Serious Busine$$

What your Harvard MBA profs won’t teach you,
or, “Using Open Source Code & Practices to Build a Monster Business, Like We Did at 140 Proof.”

Open source is fun and a powerful force that’s reshaping the way software is built in public. It’s also a crazy idea that involves giving away precious "intellectual property" and is increasingly part of the actual business strategy of successful technology companies. But can companies built on open source really make MONEY?

To a working engineer at a startup, the answer seems obvious. But is it obvious to college students in one of the most renowned schools in the world? Nope. :)

I was invited to the monthly Hack Harvard technology event at Harvard’s Innovation Lab to share thoughts with the computer science students there about how successful technology shops are increasingly built exclusively on open source code.
